Expansion and extensive refurbishment of the middle school facilities to allow for integration of year 7 students, whole of school and central special learning areas

Department of Infrastructure and Transport

Hallett Cove, SA

May 2021

Fix Lump Sum

1980’s cellular traditional facilities have been opened up, removing masonry corridors and interclass walls to create open transparent interconnected spaces that support contemporary educational pedagogies.

A key innovation of this project (and demonstrated on STEM projects) was connecting previously isolated buildings through the creation of new semi outdoor flexible spaces that creates innovative precinct learning hubs.

Key features of the upgrade include:

  • a full refurbishment and expansion of the middle school building, encompassing 2 food technology laboratories, 2 visual art studios, general learning areas, learning commons and additional staff support spaces – it will include an adjoining outdoor learning area connecting to other buildings
  • a full refurbishment of the existing home economics building to create four specialist learning areas
  • a new modular building providing 2 serviced learning areas
